China, NZ, and the US – In a Fast-Changing World, What Is the New Normal?
Silvereye was thrilled to host David Mahon on his recent visit to New Zealand. David has forty years of experience in investment banking and working with NZ companies doing business in China. He shared his insights on the rapidly changing dynamics between China and the United States and the challenges for New Zealand. His talk was an engaging and thought-provoking session that challenged all of us to think critically about the changing geopolitical landscape and how New Zealand positions itself within it.

During the session, David explored how political and economic shifts are reshaping the interactions between these three nations. He emphasized that traditional approaches to diplomacy and trade are being redefined by new challenges, emerging technologies, and changing political climates. As China continues to expand its influence, New Zealand must carefully navigate its position while maintaining strong relationships with both China and the United States.

David also shared insights into the importance of New Zealand businesses to strategically position themselves amid these fast moving global challenges. Both China and the USA have significant business opportunities for growing trade with New Zealand. New Zealand companies need to keep their efforts energised.
David’s insights reinforced that New Zealand and its businesses have a unique opportunity to shape their future, but it will require thoughtful leadership, strategic decision-making, and a willingness to embrace change.
